Frequently Asked Questions

Pilates on Tower Bridge SE1

I am new to Pilates can I attend one of your classes?

Yes, my classes are mixed ability and for everyone. Most exercises can be adapted for beginners and actually Pilates is about understanding what your body can and can’t do. If you are a complete beginning it may take a few weeks to become familiar with the fundamentals but this is normal and if you don’t give it a go then you will never feel the benefits

I have bought a 5 class block package for £60, how do I now book classes?

When you bought the package, you were given a unique reference number in your email. Enter this number into the redeem coupon/package button on whatever date you want to attend and it will charge you £12 per each class instead of £14. You do have book each class individually each time using the code.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothes to move in and either have bare feet or socks are fine if you prefer.

I have done lots of Pilates will your classes be suitable for me?

Yes of course, if you feel that you are at a more intermediate level then you will know that most exercises can be added onto and if I am aware that you have extensive Pilates knowledge I can incorporate that into my class.

I am pregnant or I have had baby within the last 6 months

I am fully qualified to teach both pregnant and postnatal women however I do not run specialist classes at present. If you are currently attending one of my classes and discover you are pregnant, please let me know and we can discuss if we both think the class will still be suitable for you during your pregnancy.

Unfortunately, I do not accept new pregnant clients to class as there are many adaptions that are needed while pregnant and this can be difficult to incorporate in a general class as it is at a different pace and you will have different needs.

If you have had a baby recently, I ask that you are approximately 6 months postpartum before joining my general class just so that your body is ready to return to exercise in this mixed setting.

I can teach 1:1’s privately throughout a pregnancy from the first trimester through to giving birth and postnatally as soon you have been given the all clear from your Doctor. This is usually after 6-12 weeks depending on your type of birth. I will design a Pilates program specifically incorporating deep abdominal core work, pelvic floor release, muscle strengthening, breathing and generally opening the shoulders and back up which are often very tight after the strains of pregnancy and having a young baby. Please contact me directly to discuss this.

Is your class full of super fit young people all knowing what they are doing?

No, not all, the class really does vary, all ages are welcome. Pilates is about moving your body in a better and controlled way, this is the same if you are 18 or 80. I have all sorts of people in my class and I encourage that, we all should be moving better, Joseph Pilates is famous for saying,

“If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old, if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.”

“Will I be the only man?”

No, not all, I have a lot of regular men attend. There is a higher ratio of women but I really think a class benefits with having both men and women in attendance.

“I have some health issues, am I able to attend Pilates classes?”

Many people turn to Pilates when they have or have had a health issue, as long as your Doctor has given you clearance to exercise then you may attend. If you are currently having treatment, please confer with your Dr/Consultant and they will tell you if they think you are ready for Pilates. Sometimes with injuries/conditions it may be better to have some 1:1 sessions rather than join the class so that more attention can be given to you individually, please contact me to discuss if this might be the case. If you regularly attend class and and you have some changes in your health it is your responsibility to let me know.

“Why do I have to fill in a client enrollment form before I attend my first class?”

Everyone who attends a Pilates class must fill in a client enrollment form before they undertake any exercise. The form gives me detailed medical information which helps me understand anything may affect your movement in class and confirms you have been given clearance to exercise. This is also a condition of my insurance. All information is strictly confidential

“Can I cancel or reschedule my class?”

To reschedule a public mat class you have up to 24 hours to either cancel or to reschedule it. You can do this by following the link in your confirmation email.

1:1 Sessions

For private sessions in your home, If you are attending regular weekly sessions I ask that you pay for a month in advance but you still have up to 48 hours before the individual session to reschedule if needed.
